Look at how much of the gate is left on the arm. It's broken off down
to about three feet. If that's the standard sized gate, three feet,
then you're right. Look at the picture.

All crossings should have some sort of advance warning flashers in
advance of the crossing, to alert drivers in fog, rain, snow that the
crossing protection is activated. maybe that would prevent this type
of accident.

Hi everyone! A CSX lawyer has been claiming that no special
agent/police officer has ever made a claim for carpal tunnel syndrome
or tennis elbow (also known as epicondylitis). Does anyone know of any
special agent/police officer who might be able to put a pin through the
balloon of the huffing and puffing CSX lawyer? Any help would be very
much appreciated.

Well Order the Recrew

The truck would of had to drive "BY" the red and white gate being in
the up position and not "THROUGH" the red and white stripped gate
being down in the working position.. If the truck had driven
"through" the red and white stripped gate it would now be red and
white tooth picks about the place the truck struck the train NOT 25
feet behind.

Pines,

Let me get this straight. From the way the truck is sitting, it looks
like the train was moving left to right. Right or wrong? Now, if the
truck struck the side of the train, which was moving left to right,
provided I'm correct about the direction of train travel, then it
would have had to drive through the "red and white" striped gate.
The gate appears to be broken. Right or wrong? Now. If the truck
went through the gate, hit the train, and got thrown to the right, it
would have knocked down the crossing gate mast. Right or wrong?
Correct me if any of this is incorrect. As far as the super bowl
tickets are concerned, you go with Mike Ward. I'll let you take my
place.

You win. 1 ticket of the million dollars worth CSX bought to the 2005
Super Bowl will be in the mail. Very good. The truck knocked down the
crossing gate and not the wind. Now tell us why the passenger side bed
of the truck broke the gate when the truck bounced back off the train
and why didn't the front of the truck break it before the truck hit
the train.

Get that part right and you can sit and hold hands with Michael Ward
during half time of the game.

Bob Pines,

I looked at your picture, and saw in the picture that the mast had been
knocked down by the truck that struck the train, and it appears the
gate was busted by the truck. Am I missing something?

Did you know that Neal Young bought Lionel Model Railroad Co. for two of
his sons who have Cerebal Palsy. He did it because they loved trains,
and wanted to make sure they were secure for the rest of their life.
Mabey he ought to write a song about this BS that the CEO of the UP is
trying to do. His gift of words in his music, would make it definitely
nasty PR for this type of corporate greed.

Talking about HO trains, I see Dick Davidson has pissed off all the
model railroaders with his corporate greed. He is demanding royalties
on anyone using the stUPid logo or any of the predesser roads like MKT
or CNW. Since the earily 1900's railroads have let the model companys
use the logos out of good will. As the article I read said, it was a
form of flattery to the railroads. It put their name out and made
people feel associated with the company when people bought these items,
rather it be a foamer or kid. The article also said foamers were buying
UP stock in protest of Mr. Davidsons actions. They plan to take it to
the vote at the next annual meeting. Sounds like the foamers are more
united than us.

20 TO 30
I was transferred to Jax. in 86 from Htgn.. We were concerned about
getting axed knowing there would be a cut back. We were assured the
New York Dock Agreement covered Non-Union also. HA! They probably
lied about that too.
Laffin Larry L.
You are right about "HARD HEADED HILL BILLY'S" Ever heard of CZOMPO
the crazy Hungarian, who owned a large portion of land just off Whites
Creek (out the Big Sandy)?
I bought his farm and soon found out why he was crazy. I had to patrol
this place for 4 years with a "Dirty Harry" 44 magnum riding a 454
Artic Cat, just to keep from being over run.
Had a guy shooting at me one night from the woods. I called the Wayne
State Police and he told me "I ain't comin out dere on dat hill"
I asked what do I do? He said Wye ---- son SHOOT BACK!
I built a 2 bed room guest house and some one torched it. Never did
figure out whether or not it was some crazed hunter or a RR manager.
HA!
Come see me. I'll be on the hill for deer season.

Hey cindercrusher

...the crossing was on a 45 degree angle...Hmmm tells me a block away
the vehicle would have been a block away from the train. Two blocks
away two blocks etc...The time/distance/geometric design of the
approach. Tell me where this miraclulous crossing is that from say a
1/4 mile away the train can see a vehicle 1/4 mile away and see a
finger through the sight obstructions.

Well mr pines you are so full of it that it comes out your ears, like i
said this was only one of the many things i have seen happen at grade
crossings and for your info the car sped up to about 60 mph about a
block before he reached that crossing and the crossing was on a 45
degree angle and thats the only reason that he was able to make it,i
have also seen school bus drivers with a bus load of kids try to beat
us several times, when the gates were down! so don't you try and tell
me anything about the railroad! and about him flicking the finger at
us, well i know who was the real dumbass, when people do stupid stuff
like that they get everthing they deserve!that's right mr pine 10,000
tons worth of education!

Pines,

Your pathetic, you know nothing except your hatred that is
embedded deep inside of you. I agree with a person who posted here
recently, your babbling on this website is better than you on a roof
top randomly shooting people.

What he stated was absolutely true, I've seen it at least a
couple dozen times in my carreer, so has most of us who work in
transportation on the RR. People on the road that are in a hurry to go
nowhere. In this case these were just fools, the thrill seeker kids
that Mommy and Daddy will try to put blame on everyone when schidt
happens except the guilty party there own children. What ever happened
to good parenting? If a person decides to take that risk at a crossing
that is their decision, we certianly can't stop them. It's called
taking responsibility for your own actions. You like figures Pines well
try this 400,000 lb Locomotive + 2500 lb Automobile= Tragidy, lets not
count the other engines and the rest of the train. Personally I'm not
willing to risk it, you might but thats your choice.

So Cindercruncher how did the vehicle negotiate the 90 degree turn the
vehicle would of had to make at 40 mph? The time/distance calculation
to your story would have the vehicle hitting the back of the first
engine.

Maybe the person hanging out the window was showing you your IQ.

The thing with grade crossings will always be a headache and heartache
to both railroaders and the rail companys,no matter how safe or unsafe
a crossing is,as a rail i know that most of the public are stupid and
dumb when it comes to train operations. Here is one example a car load
of kids keeping pace with our train along a town street at 2 am one kid
is hanging out the window giving us the finger,we are going 40mph so
are they then at the end of town the car darts right through the
flashing crossing lights we missed him by about 6 inches talk about
STUPID PEOPLE!

For it being the headquarters of CSX, no one was aware of it. CSX
definitely wasn't advertising it's HQ. They probably will eventually
sell it, seeing their cash straped.
